Answer

Mark this on your rule.

Divide a board into equal parts

The parts come out equal after allowing for a saw kerf between each one. Every mark is measured from the same end, so rounding doesn't add up as you go.

    How to type measurements
    • Whole and fraction: 3-1/2 or 3 1/2 both mean three and a half.
    • Subtract: put spaces round the minus, 5 - 1/2, or use the − key. 5-1/2 with no spaces is five and a half.
    • Units: ' or ft, " or in, mm, cm. 2' 3-1/2" is two feet three and a half inches. Numbers without a unit follow the "Plain numbers are" setting.
    • Times and divide: × or * or x; ÷, or / with spaces round it. Multiply a length by a plain number: 3-1/2" × 4.
    • How many fit: divide one length by another. 36" ÷ 4-1/2" gives 8.
    • Decimals work too: 0.375 becomes 3/8.
